What Is Answer Engine Optimization, and How Is It Scored?
Answer engine optimization is the practice of structuring content so a search or AI system can lift a clean, correct answer directly from your page. Triomize scores answer engine optimization on a dedicated 100-point matrix, the cyan AEO pillar, across 12 checks plus a 10-point intent check.
People are asking, not searching
The query box is being replaced by a question box. Gartner projects that traditional search volume will fall 25% by 2026 as people move to AI chatbots and answer engines (Gartner). It is already underway: ChatGPT passed 800 million weekly users in late 2025 and now handles billions of prompts a day, and 37% of consumers say they begin a search with an AI tool rather than a search engine (Search Engine Land).
When an answer is read aloud or summarised, only one source gets quoted. Answer Engine Optimization is the work of being that source: a direct answer up top, question-shaped headings, a real FAQ, and the schema that lets an engine lift your words cleanly. The Triomize AEO matrix scores every part of it.
If the answer is read aloud, only one source gets quoted. Make it yours.
How Triomize makes a page answer-ready
Switch to the AEO tab in the Triomize panel and a second gauge scores how cleanly an answer engine can read and quote your page.
Answer-engine intent
Declare the real questions this page should answer, built from nine starters like What, Why, How and Can. Triomize then verifies the page actually answers them.
FAQ builder
Add question and answer pairs in a couple of clicks. They are scored exactly and emitted as valid FAQPage schema, with three or more pairs earning full credit.
Speakable schema
Mark the passage voice assistants and AI readers should speak aloud, and Triomize injects SpeakableSpecification for you.
Extractable answers
Checks look for a direct answer up top, question-shaped headings and concise, quotable sentences, the format engines lift first.
AEO is one of three Triomize matrices. The same page is also scored for SEO and GEO.

AEO tools beyond the score gauge
Answer-engine readiness is built in the editor, but these tools help you scale it and emit the right schema.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between AEO and SEO?
SEO optimizes a page to rank as a link in search results. Answer engine optimization, or AEO, optimizes the same page to be extracted as the answer itself. AEO rewards an answer-first opening, question-style headings, FAQ blocks, and extractable tables, which SEO does not specifically grade. Triomize scores both separately.
How long should FAQ answers be for AEO?
For full AEO credit, each FAQ answer should run 40–80 words and your section should contain at least three question-and-answer pairs. Answers in that range are long enough to be complete and short enough to extract cleanly. Triomize checks both the count and the length, awarding partial credit when most answers fall outside the ideal range.
Does FAQ schema still create rich results?
No. Google removed FAQ rich results in 2026, so FAQPage schema no longer produces a visual snippet in standard listings. It remains worthwhile because AI answer engines still parse it to understand your question-and-answer structure. Triomize therefore keeps FAQ schema in the matrix at a reduced six-point weight.
How do I make my H1 better for answer engines?
Phrase your H1 as a question that starts with What, How, Why, When, Which, or Who, or end it with a question mark. Answer engines treat question headings as explicit answer intent. If a full question does not fit, a concise topic statement of eight words or fewer earns partial credit in Triomize.
